The Behringer XENYX 502 is a compact analog mixer designed for small-scale audio applications like home studios, podcasting, live streaming, or public announcements. It is part of the XENYX series, which is known for its “ultra-low noise” and high-headroom analog design.
Key Features and Specifications
- Inputs: The mixer typically has a total of five inputs, including:
- One mono channel with a phantom-powered XENYX microphone preamp (XLR input). This is a key feature, as it allows you to use condenser microphones.
- Two stereo channels (1/4″ TRS inputs).
- RCA inputs (CD/Tape inputs) for connecting an external music source.
- Outputs:
- Main mix outputs (1/4″ TRS).
- Separate headphone output (1/4″ TRS).
- RCA outputs for recording.
- EQ (Equalizer): It features a “British”-style 2-band EQ (High and Low) on the mono channel, which is praised for its warm and musical sound.
- Portability: The mixer is very small and lightweight, making it easy to transport and ideal for mobile setups or spaces where a large mixer isn’t practical.
- Variants: There are a few different models in the XENYX 502 family, including the:
- XENYX 502: The base model, which is a simple analog mixer.
- XENYX Q502USB: This version adds a “one-knob” compressor for the mono channel and a built-in USB/audio interface, allowing you to connect it directly to a computer for recording and playback.
- XENYX 502S: This is a newer model specifically designed for streaming, podcasting, and recording, featuring a stereo USB audio interface.
